Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is an established, evidence-based style of therapy that operates on the concept that negative and positive thoughts and behaviors are learned and reinforced throughout our lives. To change their actions, a participant first needs to modify the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that contribute to substance use. One example of a thought that may encourage a person to use illicit substances is, “I’m a terrible person; I don’t deserve to be sober.” At Archstone Behavioral Health, we help modify these damaging thoughts and beliefs. Through this process, the individual can accomplish the changes needed to sustain recovery.

Archstone Therapists

Our therapists at Archstone demonstrate the highest levels of professional, compassionate care. They always model respectful interaction and provide positive reinforcement for each patient. We focus on improving emotional development and resolving the trauma that has historically lead to poor decision-making, unhealthy attachments, impulsivity, aggression, and unhealthy coping mechanisms. By resolving these issues, the patient can begin to improve their judgment.

Interpersonal Process Groups

Interpersonal process groups at Archstone Behavioral Health are group counseling teams that attempt to promote recovery through group work involving communication and social skills. The group leader will assess how each member interacts and functions within the group. During interpersonal group therapy, the content covered in each group session is secondary to the social dynamics of the group. We use interpersonal process groups in the following programs at Archstone:

Supportive Addiction Treatment

Overwhelming feelings of shame and guilt can dissuade individuals from seeking help for addiction, even when their lives depend on it. For this reason, it is essential to work with addiction professionals who know how to encourage the patient to be accountable without fault-finding or judgment. The old break-them-down-to-build-them-up approach simply will not work because many addicts already feel broken when they reach treatment. Instead, relationships are such an essential motivator for Archstone Behavioral Health patients in treatment. We cannot overstate the importance of feeling a sense of belonging.
